Under 13s beat Beckwithshaw in Harrogate final.

Finals Day - 4th September 2011 – Knaresborough U13s v Beckwithshaw U13s

It was a great day for Knaresborough’s Juniors with the U13s being triumphant against a competitive Beckwithshaw side.

Knaresborough won the toss and chose to field.  Bond and Stanford opened the batting for Beckwithshaw with a steady start thanks to the tight bowling of Barnes, Cutts and Hughes, restricting the openers to 14 runs off the first 6 overs.

Both Beckwithshaw openers retired on 25 each.  The first wicket fell to a run out on 70, with the second quickly falling without adding to the score.  Beckwithshaw batsmen hit a number of terrific boundaries including 1 six. Beckwithshaw finished on 105 for 6 from their 20 overs. The notable bowlers were Barnes (4 overs for 5 runs), Cutts and Baines (both picking up 2 wickets each). There was some good fielding by the Knaresborough team, including 2 run outs from Baines and Thompson, catches from Barnes, Witham and Cutts, excellent wicket keeping from Davies and a diving stop from Wilson.

Knaresborough innings didn’t get off to the best of starts with the first 2 wickets falling quickly. In came Davies who with his Captain and opener Barnes quickly increased the score.  Davies hit a magnificent and entertaining 25 with 4 boundaries before being run out on 25. Barnes retired after  scoring an excellent 28 runs.  Webster also batted very well with 3 boundaries retiring on 26.  Hughes hit 2 boundaries and was run out on 12.  This brought Wilson to the crease with Thompson. Thompson hitting the winning runs with a great boundary, finishing with 4 not out.

Credit goes to both teams for a close and exciting match played in a terrific spirit.

At the presentation ceremony at the end of the game, Eddie Barnes and his team were presented with the cup for winning the Final, and all 12 members of the squad received an individual trophy. This was a superb achievement for the team, both in the final and throughout the season.

A delighted coach Tom Wilson said "A terrific final contested by two pretty evenly matched teams. Some excellent cricket, entertaining played in the right spirit a credit to both sets of players/squads".

Under 17s win Arthur Barrett Trophy.

posted 24 Aug 2011 14:33 by Richard Perham

Knaresborough and Pannal have a history of exciting and close matches at this age group over the years and this was no exception.
Knaresborough won the toss and put Pannal in to bat.  Despite losing Williams in the first over Pannal got off to a rapid start scoring at over 6 an over.
Sam Witham then had Cam Pitt caught after a stand of 55 with Henry King.  King went on to make 41 before being bowled by Ed Barnes.
Witham, Barnes and Tattersall slowed the run rate slightly, but Pannal made a challenging 125 for 6 from their 22 overs.
Knaresborough started badly, the first three batsmen accumulating only 17 between them.
Graeme Whiles and Calum How added 42 before the Aussie was undone by Luke Shemer.
Up stepped Captain Alex Gates who added 53 with Graeme in 8 overs before the latter was caught with the score on 103.
This left Alex and Henry Perham to make 23 from 17 balls.  Henry sensibly rotated the strike leaving the in-form Alex to hit the boundaries, which included 2 big sixes.
They steered Knaresborough home with 2 balls to spare to win the Arthur Barrett Trophy for the second year in a row.  Alex was named man of the match.
Credit should go to both teams for a close, exciting and competitive  match.

Girls Cricket.

posted 24 Aug 2011 14:32 by Richard Perham

The girls have enjoyed their cricket season and have turned up to training in consistently high numbers.

We had 2 matches against North Stainley and batted really well in both only to be let down by our bowling when we gave away too many wides in both games.

In the first game Georgie Ryan top scored with 25 and was well supported by Sam Corcoran who made 14 in our total of 264.

However 35 wides allowed North Stainley to accumulate 296, despite Sam taking 3 wickets.

Our second game proved something of a run fest as we scored 330, again Georgie was top scorer with 36, Ellie Churchill made 25, Lizzie Churchill 20 and Becky Corcoran 16.

However, we struggled for wickets with Gemma and Natalie taking our only ones as North Stainley managed to score 375 to win.

Thanks to all the girls for their enthusiasm and efforts during the season and to Mike for his help with coaching, until next year.

A girl's team has been entered for the indoor league this winter.

Under 13s v Harrogate.

posted 24 Aug 2011 14:28 by Richard Perham

Good batting from Forster,Horn and Everingham, along with too many wides from the Knaresborough bowlers gave Harrogate a reasonable total.
In reply Barnes and Cutts put on 38 by the 5th over before Cutts decided he could run 21 yards like Usain Bolt, except he couldn't !
From here the game got very tense with the spinners pulling the game back for Harrogate and by the penultimate over with the score tied one
Harrogate player suggested giving Knaresborough a single !! ( I hope he had got the scores wrong ! ). Thanks to Harrogate for a good game.

Under 17s win at Birstwith.

posted 22 Jul 2011 07:09 by Richard Perham

The Under 17s were in action again on Tuesday, winning at Birstwith.  Birstwith batting first made 130-5 which they thought might be a winning total.
Callum Moore top scored with 64no.  Wickets were shared between the bolwers, Josh Cutts being particularly economic with 1-16 from 5 overs.
Lewis Chadderton, playing in his last match for Knaresborough also picked up a wicket before Tom Edge sneaked in with 2-7 at the end of the innings.
Calum How 61no and Jonny Tatts 42 got the team off to a flying start with a stand of 75 from the first 8.5 overs.
Tom Beasley, 17 joined Calum to put on 47 for the second wicket before up stepped Lewis to hit the winning runs with 4 overs to spare.
